When a dispute involves numerous parties or exceptionally complicated issues, should two mediators ever be used?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of co-mediation, and how should the mediators divide their responsibilities?

What are your thoughts?

    I have done a few co-mediations as a mediator, and in the right circumstance, dual mediators can be very helpful to the parties. My co-mediated matters each involved a scenario where one mediator was more experienced in dispute mediation, but the other had deeper industry expertise. We did not get in each other's way in any of these cases. Instead, each of us viewed the dispute from a different lens, and those differing perspectives were of benefit to the parties and their counsel.
