Zoom/Virtual Fatigue

How to Beat Zoom Fatigue Across Your Remote Team | Worklytics

Does Zoom or virtual fatigue really exist when conducting arbitration/mediation proceedings? Have you experienced this as an advocate or neutral? How many breaks would you suggest and how long can a proceeding go? Does it help to have the video of yourself turned off?

What are thoughts?

    Hourly breaks are definitely necessary!

Especially for mediations, I think six hours of a zoom session is all people can take.

Zoom fatigue is a real concern for all participants. Arbitrations generally have natural breaking points (e.g., when witnesses change). Caucused mediations allow for breaks for the parties when the mediator is not with them. The mediator does not get a break unless they take one, which they should between each caucus (also to gather their thoughts).

Breaks should generally be hourly. After about six hours, the proceeding should adjourn for the day.
