About the New York Peace Institute:

As New York City’s largest civilian peace force and the State-designated Community Dispute Resolution Center (CDRC) for Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York Peace Institute (NYPI) empowers people and communities to find creative and durable solutions to their disputes. NYPI provides conflict resolution services—mediation, conflict coaching, community conferencing, and various other restorative processes—to thousands of New Yorkers each year. In addition, NYPI advances the field by training and certifying mediators, teaching conflict resolution skills to the community, and working with schools, educators, and students to address societal rifts and shift the current culture to build community and implement restorative processes in lieu of traditional punitive measures. CDRCs, including NYPI, were started by community leaders who believed in the power of mediation to resolve conflicts and bring peace to their neighborhoods. NYPI was originally part of Victim Services Center, now Safe Horizon. In 2011, New York Peace Institute became its own 501(c)(3); 2021 marked its 10th year anniversary as an independent organization and its 40th year working to resolve conflict in New York.

About the
Chuck Newman Award:

This year we lost a beacon of light in New York's ADR community. Chuck Newman was a former ACR-GNY President, a member of the Roundtable Breakfast organizing committee, an excellent mediator, advocate, dedicated attorney, gracious leader, library of ADR resources, a thoughtful mentor, a family man, a visionary and an all-around good guy who brought warmth and a smile into every room. Chuck spent over a decade supporting the growth of the ADR field, but more than that, he was deeply invested in our ADR community: the people who spend their time and emotional resources to explore peaceful resolutions.

In recognition of Chuck and his legacy, ACR-GNY has named an award in his honor. Every year at Mediation Settlement Day, we will now bestow the Chuck Newman Award for Impact in the ADR Community to an individual or organization.
