    About the Program:

Many of the 24,000,000+ US family-owned businesses are currently owned and managed by baby boomers who are nearing retirement. One major challenge they face is whether to sell their business to third parties or transition management and ownership to a new generation, in which case a number of other issues present themselves. The interplay of family systems and business realities creates unique sources of strength as well as conflict to the family-owned business. The presenters will provide their perspectives and experience as to the tools and strategies which have been effective in mediating transitional conflicts as well as structuring robust mechanisms to minimize destructive conflict in the future among second and third generations.

The speakers will discuss how family dynamics and lack of transparency can create a misalignment of family and enterprise goals. Components of strategic plans for family sustainability and attaining enterprise goals will also be discussed.

    Learning Objectives:
    (1) Identify issues presented by three areas of family enterprise transitions: governance, leadership and ownership; (2) Recognize the influences and impact of family systems and dynamics on family business transitions; (3) Learn how neutral facilitators can help resolve the conflicts often present in family enterprise transitions.

    Co-Presenters:

Warren von C. Baker, Principal & Founder, The Family Business Fulcrum

Matthew L. Caras, Principal and Managing Partner, Leaders LLC

Richard Lutringer, Principal, Lutringer ADR Consulting
